Poncelet is a Computer Scientist with 25 years in the field; he has been involved with ICT for D, EdTech, Internet Governance and Health Informatics as a lecturer, researcher and consultant. He currently leads Jokkolabs Banjul in the Gambia, part of the Jokkolabs Network of hubs across Africa.
Prior to this, Poncelet served as the country coordinator for the World Links program in the Gambia from 2001 to 2005. Funded and initiated by the World Bank, the program adopted a constructivist approach to teaching with ICT that emphasized a shift away from teacher centered lecture-based instruction towards student-centered, project-based learning.
Among the many hats he wears for his nation and beyond, Poncelet is a founding member and former President of the Information Technology Association of the Gambia, national resource person for the West African Internet Governance Forum, Adviser to Ministry of Information Communication and Infrastructure, representative of Computer Frontiers in the Gambia and active member of the Association for Progressive Communication. He also served on the Working Group for WG 3 – Privacy and Transparency Online for Freedom Coalition. On the fellowship side, Poncelet has been part of Mirandanet and the open technology fund with a focus on digital integrity.
